ISAT testing Feb. 27-Mar. 1

Fifth graders will take three reading tests and three math tests during this week.

Most answers are multiple choice, but students will need to do extended response answers in both areas.

We have been practicing how best to do this over the past couple of weeks.

While at times it can be tedious for students, my advice is just to do their best to relax and try to apply their skills, knowledge, and tips we’ve discussed in class to their work. Make an effort, and you will succeed!

The Grove Field Trip on 1/12/12

Dear Parents,

Please be sure to pack a sack lunch and drink for you child for our filed trip on Thursday.

If they get the hot food day on this day, it will be saved and given to students to take home at the end of the day. Remember to have your child dress (as best they can) to look like a colonial child. See the note attached to the permission slip.

Thanks for your support!!!

Nightly Reading

Students should try to read 20 minutes a night, but everyone gets busy.

Therefore, your child should be reading a minimum of 60 minutes Monday – Friday. Evidence of this should be in their assignment notebook on Friday. Name of book/magazine read and a parent signature or initials. On weekends, students need to read a minimum of 45 minutes and record book and time.

Thank you for your support!

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year

This year I am trying to get students to be observant of the world around them.

Each week, four students will be assigned to find a news article in a newspaper or online. You can read it together, highlight important information, and have your child fill out the who, what, when, where, and why sheet as notes. They should bring in the article, review it with the class, and give their opinion of it. Also be sure to know what type of news article it is (national, international, sports, science, entertainment, etc.)

That’s “Whats News.”
